The Holsopple
Historical Building board has made steady progress at preserving the train
station area.
In 2003, Border Grove, located directly behind the station, was
graciously donated to the Holsopple Historical Building by Roger, Richard
and Ronald Fish in an effort to keep the land available for community use.
The Grove provides an
ideal place to hold our organization’s Summer Festival as well as other
community gatherings.
In 2004, we received donations to purchase 11 picnic tables, which were
placed in the Grove for public use. We
also received donations to purchase 5 park benches, which will be
installed this spring around the station and Grove area.
Most recently, we were awarded a $1,000 grant in November from the
Community Foundation for the Alleghenies. This grant, combined with a
portion of our own funds, will allow us to rewire the station’s 90 year
old electrical system to meet current requirements, and to install a wood
floor in the freight room this spring.
There are many projects we still need to complete, so please return
your membership form today. |
